Best Dressed Knowles

I’m obsessed with menswear. Take me to Savile Row and I’ll be in bespoke glory. The pile of men’s mags growing beside my bed is upsetting. So imagine my delight when I saw Solange’s style profile on Refinery29.com and noticed the Vintage jacket, Max Azria silk tank and Zara pant ensemble.

I’ve grown to fancy Solo and here are a few reasons why. In the tête-à-tête, she’s brutally up-front (“I initially was involved as the spokesperson [for House of Deréon], but the clothes just didn’t reflect my personal style and I decided to hand that over.”) and manages to make us a bit envious verbally illustrating her daily routine for constructing her latest album (“We woke up around 10 a.m. and made music until midnight, all of course while drinking good wine, picking avocados from the trees outside to make guacamole, and maybe enjoying a joint or two.”). Sweet. Where do I sign up?

[sans the joint reference. Drugs aren't cool.]

"Do You"

I’ve been in love with Russell Simmons for a very, very long time. In the 90s, I had an obsession with businessmen (and women) and Simmons, the self-proclaimed yogi and man of philanthropy, was (and still is) the quintessential exec and entrepreneur. In light of his new show “Running Russell Simmons,” I decided to go in the basement and fish for his 2007 book “Do You! 12 Laws to Access the Power in You to Achieve Happiness and Success.” When I first read the book, it left me encouraged and energized (I even began to take yoga classes because of it. What did I ever do before yoga??).

As I’m in pursuit of a little encouragement and words of wisdom (sorry Rev. Run), I’m going to blog some gems from the book. I’ll add on as I flip back and forth between chapters.

Today:

“See your vision and stick with it…freeze your vision so that you can never lose it. Freeze it in your mind and meditate on it every day.”

Update: I will also post from his book "Super Rich." He gives great advice that has already changed my way of thinking, the way I approach life and how I work.
